Domestic Helper Cooking Certificate Course
To improve domestic helpers' culinary skills and allow them to adapt to the taste preference of Hong Kong people comprehensively, we are providing a cooking class for domestic helpers.
Target: Cambodian domestic helpers, Filipino domestic helpers, and Indonesian domestic helpers
Course Characteristics
We plan to offer this cooking course in 3 stages from beginners to intermediate to advanced so that domestic helpers can gain the opportunity to acquire new culinary skills of traditional Chinese cuisines and international cuisines.
*Conrad College will provide participants with equipment and ingredients as well as a recipe book
*Communication medium will be English to ensure clear interpretation of instructions
Course Details
Beginners Stage (3 Sessions)

Measure ingredients accurately with kitchen measuring tools

Learn how to use kitchen appliances safely

Understand the basic of food safety and hygiene

Know basic ingredients for cooking

Learn various cutting techniques

Acquire steaming and boiling techniques
Intermediate Stage (5 Sessions)

Become competent in reading a standardized recipe

Learn safe food preparation and handling procedures

Master simple cooking techniques such as steaming, frying, and boiling

Learn food preparation skills including grating, crushing, stirring and sieving

Acquire expertise in de-seeding vegetables such as tomatoes and peppers

Become proficient in more advanced cutting techniques such as slicing and dicing

Learn to cook traditional Chinese dishes that are popular in Hong Kong
Advanced Stage (7 Sessions)

Prepare dishes using a variety of ingredients such as herbs, spices, oils, vinegar

Cook festive dishes from Chinese culture such as steamed carrot cake and mooncake

Cook Chinese dumplings (wontons)

Cook complex seafood dishes

Cook fresh meat and fish

Make Hong Kong’s most famous dessert, for example, Egg Tart

Cook nourishing food for the elderly with sicknesses and long-term illnesses

Cook food for newborn babies
